New Music

I like to listen to different Radio stations from time to time. Not just the commercial stations such as Radio 1 and Key 103.

I am currently listening to BBC Radio 3. Now your probably asking why ? Because I am listing to the British Composers Awards 2011.

This is where British composers get recognition for there work. I feel as a musician it is important to listen to different types of music not just Classical,Popular Music, Jazz etc. We have alot to learn about listening to different types of music and we grow as musicians, I am a big fan of Classical music but like to go to the “other side” from time to time and listen to new works. The programme I am currently listening to is very quite good. Various types of pieces have been composed ranging from Instrumental/Solo works, Orchestral pieces to Contemporary Jazz pieces and Community and Education projects. If your in the UK have a listen to the programme you maybe surprised.

It really does open your eyes to other works in the classical arena. I must admit I am a big fan of Micheal Nyman  who has wrote many film scores including “The Piano” If you would like to find out more about Contemporary music BBC Radio 3  have a programme called “Hear and Now” which is broadcast on a Saturday night.
